Attosecond Carrier Dynamics in Solid State Materials
We are interested in studying the dynamics of excited carriers in solid state materials during and following optical excitation with the aim to better understand many-body dynamics and potential development of novel and improved semiconductor and optoelectronic devices. Our focus therein lies in understanding the fundamental dynamics that lead to excitation of carriers by light, their relaxation, equilibrization and thermalization as well as their transport and diffusion. The use of extreme ultra-violet (XUV) pulses of attosecond duration by High-Harmonic Generation (HHG) thereby not only allows us to follow these dynamics on their natural timescales, but also gives us core-level insight, allowing a element-localized view and disentangle different band-contributions energetically with high resolution.
Circular Dichroic Attosecond Spectroscopy
Recently, we introduced circular dichroic attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (cDATAS). This method uses circularly-polarized attosecond XUV pulses and co- or counter-rotating near-infrared (NIR) to visible (VIS) pulses to excited opticall oriented states. In materials with spin-orbit coupling, this method allows us to study spin-dependent dynamics, offering a novel insight into the systems studied.
