Project goal

Real time observation & control of electronic & molecular motion on atomic length scales making use of ultra-short XUV/X-ray laser sources
 

Our ability to view and steer electrons at the atomic scale opens fantastic new opportunities, from the development of ultrafast electronic, nanoplasmonic and nanophotonic devices to the control of chemical reactivity. It can also provide new insights into the origin of charge and energy transfer in biologically relevant molecular systems. In our research, we aim to visualize, understand, and control electronic and atomic motion during the transformation of finite quantum systems, starting from few-body systems to isolated nanoparticles. All these investigations are done using state-of-the-art sources of ultrashort XUV and X-ray pulses that are either developed in our institute using the well-known high-order harmonic generation process or at large scale facilities such as Free-Electron-Lasers.
