Drive laser for the superconducting RF gun at the HZDR (Rossendorf)

The MBI has developed three lasers generating the pulses for the superconducting RF gun at the ELBE linac at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden Rossendorf (HZDR). Recently, a new two-channel version of the laser was installed. The challenge of this laser was to achieve two major modes with regard to the repetition rate (13 MHz as well as 500, 250 and 100 kHz).

The average power of the UV radiation (267 nm wavelength) exceeds 1 W.

In addition, the laser can generate bursts of these UV pulses. This bursts mode allows for a gradual reduction of the duty cycle between 0.1 and 100 %. This mode is particularly important for alignment of the linear accelerator and the FEL.
