Ultrafast phosphate hydration dynamics in bulk H2O

Researchers of the Max-Born-Institute (Berlin) use two-dimensional photon echo and pump-probe infrared spectroscopy as well as quantum chemical molecular dynamics calculations to characterize phosphate-water interactions.

One sentence summary:
Ultrafast structural fluctuations determine the lineshapes of both linear absorption and 2D spectra of phosphate vibrations in aqueous solution, underlying the highly dynamic nature of the structural fluctuations in the hydration shell in bulk water.
