Olga Smirnova receives the Karl Scheel Prize 2010
The secret government councilor Dr. Ing. H.c. Karl Scheel (1866-1936) was a Berlin physicist. From 1913 to 1931 he was head of the physical-technical department of the Physikalisch Technische Reichsanstalt (now PTB). He was editor of various publications, including "Landolf-Börnstein: Physico-chemical tables" (with Walther Roth), Handbook of Physics "(with violinist) and" Physical Hand Dictionary "(with Berliner). From his legacy to the Physical Society of Berlin u.a. awarded the annual Karl Scheel Prize in the context of a memorial service.
The Berlin Physical Society (PGzB), founded in 1845, is one of the oldest scientific societies in Germany. It was together with other regional societies predecessor of the 1963 founded German Physical Society (DPG) and is today one of their regional associations.
