Tailoring HHG to the requirements of single-shot CDI experiments with sub-10fs resolution

Intense extreme ultraviolet (XUV) pulses from high-harmonic generation (HHG) have recently started to compete with short-wavelength free-electron lasers in the sense that high-intensity experiments such as nonlinear ionization or single-shot single-particle coherent diffraction imaging (CDI) can be carried out in the lab. We aim for CDI experiments investigating ultra-fast dynamics in Helium nano-droplets with an increased temporal resolution by utilizing high power 8fs NIR pulses to drive the HHG compared to former experiments where a 35 fs NIR pulse was used. The creation of suitable conditions for single shot CDI of free-flying isolated Helium nano-droplets is discussed.
