The
"Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB)" represents an organizational
and legal umbrella to which the Max Born Institute belongs. The FVB
consists of 8 such institutes active in phyics, mathematics or live
sciences which have been founded in 1992 after the German unification
in the eastern part of Berlin. These institutes are funded jointly
by the federal government and the states (Länder) of Germany and are members of the Leibniz Association. Each institute is
scientifically independent. The eight institutes of the FVB share
a joint administration and are legally represented by their respective
Director(s) and the Administrative Head of the FVB. The supervising
body for all eight institutes is the "Kuratorium" which consists
of high ranking representatives from science, industry and administration.
